PADI DSMB and Reel Deployment Speciality
Why PADI DSMB and Reel Deployment Speciality? The correct deployment and use of DSMBs is crucial too diving safety in the sea, both in the UK and abroad The PADI DSMB and Reel Distinctive Speciality course is a two-part introduction to the methods and practices involved with Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) deployment.
What do I need to start?
- PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organisation).
- Minimum age: 12 years old
What will I do?
This custom written specialty is based on the concept of a two-part course. You will have an academic development session, and then move into open water to complete two dives. On the dives you will complete the following tasks:
- Identify the correct stowage option for your DSMB and reel
- Demonstrate how to deploy a DSMB using a range of methods of inflation
- Demonstrate how to deploy a DSMB with a secondary reel after the primary has fouled
- Whilst maintaining neutral buoyancy unclip and unroll your DSMB
- Whilst maintaining neutral buoyancy, deploy a DSMB using any of the taught methods
- Ascend in a buddy team whilst using a deployed DSMB and reel
- Whilst holding a deployed DSMB and reel, maintain neutral buoyancy and perform a safety stop at 5m for no less than 3 minutes

How long will it take? The academic session and the two dives can be completed in a day
What will I need? NOTHING !! You can borrow DSMBs and reels, but if you have your own already, bring it along
